and many wonderful hiking trails including the gorgeous, Lake Hodges.  Encompassing over 6,511 acres, Rancho Bernardo is a master planned community with most neighborhoods enjoying views of nearby mountain ranges, easy access to freeways, and neighborhood community parks.

Rancho Bernardo is home to one of Southern California’s oldest wineries- The Bernardo Winery.  Founded in 1889, the Bernardo Winery hosts numerous community events such as First Friday’s Artwalk and special tasting room hours.

Some of the first residents of Rancho Bernardo were the Kumeyaay Indians.  In fact, there are many pictographs adorning boulders throughout the northwestern areas of Rancho Bernardo.   Grinding stones can be found along the trails cresting Hodges lake and are reflective of a much simpler time, centuries ago, when stones were used to grind corn into maize.  With a diverse array of mountains, open space and the perfect climate, it’s no wonder the Kumeyaay Indians chose Rancho Bernardo as their home.

Rancho Bernardo’s real estate is as diverse as the history of the community.  Single-family detached homes start as low as the mid $300’s and even lower for 55+ older communities- mid $200’s.  Custom built quality estate homes can reach over $5 M in the luxurious communities of Santa Luz and the Crosby.  The desirable community of 4S Ranch can also be found in Rancho Bernardo and offers everything from newer built starter condominiums to large homes which can accommodate growing families.  Condos start as low as $120K for one bedroom and can sell for over $500K for more roomy and modern models.

There are several retirement communities in Rancho Bernardo.  Seven Oaks and Oaks North offer choices for residents range from patio style condos to single-family homes.  Residents of Seven Oaks, as well as Oaks North, enjoy quiet, tranquil tree-lined streets, mountain views and some even golf course views.

Lake Hodges is Rancho Bernardo’s northernmost community with beautiful homes scattered around the lake itself.  Here hiking trails intertwine throughout the neighborhoods giving resident’s easy access to one of San Diego’s true gems-Lake Hodges.  The park is a popular destination for mountain bike riders, runners, hikers and anyone who just wants to get away from it all and reconnect with the beauty and wildlife San Diego has to offer.
