Remodeling Your New Home

Owning you own home can bring years of fun and enjoyment to the creative at heart.  Since many of our homes in San Diego were built in the 40’s, 50’s, 60’s, 70’s and 80’s a lot of home buyers set their sights on personalizing their home after closing.  For many this can mean new landscaping or even extensive remodeling renovations.  Putting your own style on your home is one of the best aspects of home ownership, in my humble opinion.  The chart below, provided by the California Association of Realtors, illustrates some of the costs extensive renovations can cost California Homeowners.  As a homeowner myself, I find the chart a bit on the high side for what most of my buyers experience.  But certainly, if you are moving walls and gutting a home, the costs can add up quickly.  If you are unsure of the costs of a project you wish to do to your new home, give me a ring, I can help put you in touch with trusted and honest contractors for your next big project.

The Model Home Effect

The model home effect is everything when it comes to putting your home on the market to sell.  The reason?  Well within the first 15 seconds of entering your home, a buyer has developed an opinion of your property.  Often times that can mean an offer, or no offer from a prospective buyer.  Putting your best foot forward and creating a “model home effect” to the best of your ability and budget, will come back to reward you in the end.  A model home has several key points:

  1.  The environment is neutral.
  2. The colors and interior decorating accent the home’s features.
  3. The sound is soft, quiet or enchanted by subtle background music.  The homeowner has thought of everything to appeal to the senses from lights being left on, to candles burning with a pleasing smell.
  4. All details are looked after from a clean walkway and front door to a fresh bouquet of flowers welcoming you at the entry.
  5. All maintenance and would be “work” for buyers to do is done, leaving the impression that owning your home will be effortless and rewarding.

2016 is predicted by most economist to continue to see modest gains in San Diego’s housing community with modest appreciation. Interest rates have slowly begun to rise although they are still at historic lows.  This coupled with rising property values, now is the time to jump into San Diego Home ownership before rates make payments cost prohibited.  Give me a ring today….I can help!

How to Hire A Contractor in San Diego

Remodeling your home or yard can be a huge undertaking.  While exciting, it can also be stressful and costly.  There are however some tips to help you succeed in your remodeling endeavors.  The number one rule San Diego Realtors use is to always obtain at least 3 quotes, in writing, from licensed contractors.  Not only will you have 3 different costs to examine, you will have 3 different perspectives on exactly how the contractor will approach the remodel.  This can be hugely informative and actually help to give you ideas.  It’s one of the best things you can do.

The Contractors State License Board also outlines several other tips and suggestions in the chart below.  You of course can give your local friendly real estate agent, Tami McCraw, a call for a few names and recommendations.  I’m happy to help!
